The Burnaby Amateur Radio Club is hosting a special event this coming June 16 - 17 weekend. We are celebrating the C.W. Parker Carousel's 100th Anniversary, at Burnaby Village Museum. We have obtained a special call sign for this event ... CG7CWPC.
The station will be set up outside the Carousel pavilion on June 16th and 17th. We will be operating between 8am to 5pm (pacific), both days. Gate admission for the Museum is free during the summer season so bring the whole family!
We would like to get as many amateurs to come out and volunteer an hour or two for this special event. This would be a great opportunity for new and inactive radio amateurs to work the station to obtain some experience and get back on the air. It also might be a good warm-up practice for Field Day.
We are looking for station managers, operators, loggers and amateur radio spokespersons to explain what amateur radio is and what we are doing. Two HF stations and one VHF station will be in operation.
There will be hands-on table for visitors to try their hand at CW with a key or paddles connected to a CW practice oscillator and display monitor. We will also be handing out information about local amateur radio clubs and contact points.
Assistance with set-up and tear-down is also appreciated. If interested, please contact Eric VE7EES at ve7ees@rac.ca for details.

Save the date! The Burnaby Amateur Radio Club annual Fox Hunt will be on July 14th. More details to follow.
Volunteers are needed for the New Westminster Hyack International Parade. Operators assigned to the assembly area and parade officials will start communications at 08:00 and those assigned to points along the parade route will start a little later. The event starts at 10:30 with the Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill Team and the parade follows. We are usually all done by around 13:00.
About 25 operators are needed for this event. Assignments will include such things as assembly area, judging, shuttle buses, police, with various Hyack and parade officials, P.A. announcer, dispersal etc. The parade committee also counts on us for communication at many of the intersections along the parade route and would appreciate any help we can provide with the actual manning of the traffic barricades.
As always, new hams are very welcome. No experience is necessary, we can certainly buddy up any brand new hams with an experienced operator. All that is required is a handheld, (and hopefully a spare battery!)
Further details will be supplied to volunteers as the events draws closer. More info can be found on the Hyack website at www.hyack.bc.ca
Thanks in advance for your help,
Ken Clarke

SARC is sponsoring a bus trip to this year's Sea-Pac Hamfest in Seaside, Oregon.
Our itinerary is for a 7 a.m. departure on Friday, June 1st, leaving from pick-up spots in Surrey and possibly additional locations, depending on demand.
We'll arrive in Seaside mid-afternoon for hotel check-in, with time to relax before the Sea-Pac spaghetti dinner.
Sea-Pac offers a full slate of events on Saturday, including seminars, the famous Flea Market and vendor displays.
While hams are attending Sea-Pac events, family members (kids welcome) can enjoy a coach tour of local sights in nearby Cannon Beach and Astoria, enjoy the beach and tax-free shopping in picturesque Seaside.
After dinner in town or the Sea-Pac banquet, the group will leave late evening and arrive back home early Sunday morning.
SARC's package price includes transportation and registration for Sea-Pac events.
Sea-Pac organizers have arranged for hotel discounts with a few local hotels: Seaside Microtel Inn and Best Western Oceanside Resort.
Please don't delay in making hotel reservations, as rooms sell-out very quickly for Hamfest each year.
Yes, you’re welcome to bring other family members on this trip.
Book your spot on the trip today by going to SARC's website at www.ve7sar.net, choosing your registration options and arranging payment by credit card or PayPal.
Meetings are held on the first and third Friday of every month (except July and August). Everyone is welcome to attend.
During the re-construction of the Eastburn Community Centre our meetings will be held at the Tommy Douglas Library, 7311 Kingsway, Burnaby. The library is located on the north side of Kingsway, just west of Edmonds Street. We have the room booked from 7pm to 8:45pm. The business meetings will start no later than 7:30pm.
